The love of flax..... PDF Print E-mail

Working with flax and understanding flax is at the heart of my work.  Flax, like wine, has good years and bad and so I begin by sourcing the best quality vintage flax fibres. I transform the fibres into yarn, designing and developing my own signature yarns with different qualities and twists, before weaving up into linen cloth.  I use natural tones of flax with touches of indigo.  Different tones are the result of different ways of harvesting flax fibres; water-retting yields a beautiful golden tone whilst dew-retting in the field yields a silver tone. I use the traditional linen finishing processes of beetling and burnishing; these alter the structure of the fibre, opening it up to the light, and give the finished cloth a beautiful sheen.
